JCP Mission: “Bringing the Community and its’ Services together to preserve Families.”

There are five workgroups within the Partnership.  Each workgroup has a mission that is incorporated into the vision of the Partnership.

Education: “Working to ensure that Children and Families will have academic support.”

Childcare Headstart Preventive: “Working to connect Children at risk and Families to Resources.”

Visitation:Working to provide creative resources and opportunities for bonding between

Children in care and their Family Members.”

Recruitment: “Working to establish a quality group of eligible Resource Parents for Children in Care.”

Case Conferencing: “Working to ensure the safety of Children while providing support to the Families.”

The JCP has over 200 partners.  Social Service agencies (Foster Care, Preventive and more), grassroots organizations, churches, faith based organizations and banks, working together with Community leaders and residents to accomplish this mission.  Community Mediation Services, Inc. is the fiscal conduit for the JCP.

The JCP Liaison is a full time staff person hired by the Community Partnership.  The Liaison’s two primary roles are as:

  • Coordinator; and
  • Facilitator of Strategic Planning.

Responsibilities include:

  • Actively coordinates and monitors the activities of the Partnership, ranging from the immediate tasks to the long range strategic planning for the coalition.
  • Responsible for the coordination of the Partnership’s meetings and activities.
  • Works in collaboration with the Partnership Leadership to determine the agenda and activities of meetings.
  • Assist Partnership Co-Chair(s) to organize and lead the monthly general meeting; prepare and distributes minutes.
  • Assist the leadership of the Partnership Work Groups, attend meetings and only take on a leadership role in the Work Group until other leaders are identified.
  • Collaborates with the Partnership Leadership, to initiate strategic planning and monitor activities and outcomes for each work group as well as the full coalition.
  • The Liaison is often the “face” of the Coalition and is an important spokesperson for the group.  Collaborate with others, to greet new members, recruit new members and help potential members understand the specific role they can play in the coalition.
  • Maintain database of community partners.
  • Document and submit timely reports of all Community Partnership activities.
  • Mediate among workgroup members should issues arise in order to encourage harmony and good relationship.
  • Oversight of Community Partnership budget.
  • Represent the Partnership in community meetings, ACS meetings, and other meetings.
  • Work with ACS Community Partnership Facilitator to access technical assistance, support and data from ACS.
  • Liaison to the Fiscal Contractor for all expenditures and budgetary issues
  • Monitor and coordinate activities, training and payment of Community Representatives, Visiting Hosts and Community Advocates (if applicable).
  • Communicate a clear and concise message based on the key elements of each of the Community Partnership tasks.
  • Establish mechanisms of communication between self and different groups of stakeholders (co-chairs, Community Partnership Program, work co-chairs, general coalition) and between stakeholders.

The Liaison position requires a person who can take the initiative and work on their own without daily supervision, yet is simultaneously accountable to many people.  While the Liaison must be able to perform duties that require attention to detail and supports the ongoing operation of coalition activities, s/he must also have an understanding that coalitions are built and maintained on consensus.  Consensus works best when there is ongoing, frequent and accurate communication among stakeholders.

The Liaison is accountable to the Coalition and to ACS and is supervised by the Partnership’s Co-Chairs and the Fiscal Conduit.

  • Optimistic about change and have a “do what it takes” attitude.
  • Must be able to work effectively with a team.
  • Strategic thinking
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of or affiliation with Jamaica a plus.
  • 3-5 years working experience with community organizing

*Special consideration given to those with connections to Jamaica, Queens.
