CMS Training Institute

The CMSTI has been training professionals and members of the community in negotiation, conflict resolution and mediation skills for over 25 years. The agency began designing court diversion programs for youth and families and developed many creative approaches to empower people in crisis to make more effective decisions for themselves and their families. The empowerment models included mentors, mediators and school peer mediators. Each new program expanded the models and materials to train professionals and the public in empowering facilitative skills.

In addition to three curricula certified by the Office of Court Administration, we have developed applications within the child welfare, education, youth services, juvenile justice and homeless services systems. These models complement social work, education, probation, child protective and other professional services. The strategies employed foster more collaborative environments and all types of groups: work teams, youth groups, community organizations, profits and non-profit organizations as well as families. The skills and strategies we offer can be adapted to make any environment or set of relationships more able to negotiate crises, resolve conflicts or manage change.
