CMS is committed to providing justice services that address the unique needs of individuals and families. Our Juvenile Justice programs focus on working with at-risk youth to prevent their involvement in the justice system – offering guidance, support, and interventions that promote positive behavior, educational success, and personal growth. CMS offers Legal Stability Services, assisting individuals in navigating complex legal systems and providing access to legal resources and guidance. Nearly 96% of our clients involved/impacted within the justice system are motivated to continue their education.

Through these services, we aim to ensure that individuals have the necessary support to resolve legal issues and maintain stability within the community. Our Immigration Education initiatives provide vital information and resources to individuals and families navigating the intricacies of immigration processes. We strive to empower individuals with knowledge about their rights, options, and available resources, fostering understanding and informed decision-making. With a commitment to justice and stability, CMS works diligently to provide complete support and guidance to individuals and families, ensuring access to justice and promoting legal cognition within the community.

CMS’ Justice programming strives to improve outcomes for court-involved individuals, emphasizing youth and adults aged 13-24. We provide intensive support and skill building through goal setting, education and counseling, advocacy, family stability, job readiness, and employment skills. Partnering with courts, we offer effective incarceration alternatives that keep families intact and strengthen communities. CMS believes in working to develop a system that actively promotes racial equity, diverts youth away from the system wherever possible and advances public safety. Clients who participate in our justice programs have a completion rate of 80%, which is higher than the completion rate of other programs. Our program has been proven to significantly reduce recidivism rates by 98% compared to those who do not participate.

The Next STEPS Program caters to young adults aged 16 to 24 residing in Queensbridge Housing Development, located in Long Island City, NY. This program is specifically designed to address the needs of disconnected high-risk youth through a combination of one-on-one mentoring and group support. By providing a safe and inclusive space, the Next STEPS program empowers participants to identify and pursue the necessary changes to re-engage in educational pursuits and secure meaningful employment aligned with their career interests. Through targeted guidance and resources, the program equips young adults with the skills and opportunities they need to build a promising future.

The AIM Program offers a comprehensive range of intensive mentoring services, structured support, and resources to youth and families residing in Southeast Queens. Participants in this program are referred by a Family Court judge, following recommendations from the Department of Probation. Through a combination of individual and group activities, dedicated advocacy, and fostering community connections, the AIM Program aims to not only reduce crime but also facilitate lasting positive outcomes for young individuals involved in the justice system and their families. By providing a supportive environment and empowering participants with essential life skills, the program strives to promote personal growth, resilience, and a brighter future for all those involved.

ALTERNATIVES TO INCARCERATION

We specialize in supporting young adults between 18 and 26 who have pending felony cases in Queens County. Our program is designed with several important objectives in mind. Firstly, we aim to minimize the reliance on incarceration, seeking alternative solutions that prioritize rehabilitation and reintegration. Additionally, we strive to prevent future involvement with the criminal justice system by offering comprehensive assistance and guidance. Moreover, our program is committed to creating pathways to employment and education, enabling participants to develop the skills necessary for sustainable success. Lastly, we actively support participants in reengaging with civic and community life, fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment. 98 % of youth involved with the program have remained arrest free during participation in the program.
